Learn More About Me
An Integrative Counsellor
My first career was in the Royal Navy - a nurse in the Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service. On leaving the Service I worked in a busy general hospital in Hampshire. During my time at home with my children I volunteered with SSAFA and RN welfare.

Via postings abroad & the children I've been lucky to have also taught English to local kindergarten children in Belgium and been part of setting up a youth club.

All my experiences have lead me to becoming a qualified counsellor, trained to use different theoretical models. My focus in practice is very much person centred but can incorporate elements of Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy if needed & by invitation.
I have experience of working as a counsellor in a 6th form college; a counselling agency, providing counselling services to the primary health care sector and I am a recognised counsellor ready to support both serving & veteran personnel & their families via the Royal Marine Association.
I am guided by an ethical & professional framework as a registrant member of the National Counselling Society. I attend monthly supervision sessions and take part in various continuing professional development opportunities to support my practice and registration.

My qualifications are:-
L4 Advanced Diploma in Counselling
L3 Diploma in Counselling Skills
L3 Certificate in Counselling Skills
BSc (Open) - relating to Health & Social Care
PTLLS - Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector.

To date I have had experience of clients needing counselling to help with various areas of concern and across the ages including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, bereavement & loss, chronic illness, self-esteem and self-confidence, trauma, & suicidal thoughts.

Coming to counselling is not easy and takes courage & I appreciate that. It can be challenging as you explore what is uppermost for you and the thoughts, feelings & emotions that surround that. Counselling can be of benefit at different stages of your journey, not just at the crisis points...........

Sessions
What can you expect?
Counselling is a talking therapy with a trained person who is non-judgemental, has empathy & is congruent (honest). The process can increase self-awareness, identify choices and lead to sustainable and realistic change.

I offer individual counselling in a safe and confidential space in which you can explore by invitation what ever is uppermost for you.
